Sports are a social union. More than just the appreciation of strength, skill, and discipline, the communal power of sports is an effective conduit for collective experiences that pave the way for societal understanding.

The initiatives of Football for Peace Movement Inc. are all about these things and more.

Committed to building peaceful communities in post-conflict cities in the Philippines through the game of football, Football for Peace Movement Inc. kicked off another iteration of its advocacy caravan in October 2023.

The caravan visited Zamboanga, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi during a seven-day stretch in its first leg in October 2023 before proceeding to its second leg, which will go around Cagayan, Bukidnon, and Iligan City.

The initiative did not only aim to foster camaraderie through intercultural dialogue but also took seriously the promise and potential of the participating youth who received the gift of mentorship from highly touted coaches.

No less than former national team player and “Mr. Football” himself Elmer Bedia headed the coaching unit, which also included Ludwig Fuentebella who played for the flag in the ‘70s. The campaign featured training clinics, coaching sessions, and tournaments meant to hone the skills of the players.

Football For Peace Movement Inc. is a non-profit, non-governmental organization primarily interested in leveraging the beautiful game of football to harness mutual understanding and collective attachment amongst participants from different walks of life, particularly those living in areas riddled with conflict.

The peace-building initiative has always aimed to provide opportunities for parties to not only meet for dialogues but more importantly to share moments together in a collective spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
