GMA Network’s brand new TV special “My Mother, My Story” will delve into stories of motherhood and inspiration. It’s a Sunday series hosted by no less than Boy Abunda, himself a proud mom fan, and its premiere episode will be a huge Mother’s Day treat.

“My Mother, My Story” is a special limited Sunday series by the country’s one and only King of Talk, which will first air on May 12 while the country celebrates the kind of care and nurturing only mamas can give.

It will explore moving tales of motherhood, though Tito Boy won’t be talking to the matriarch. Instead, the child will be the storyteller – a mother’s story through the lens of the child.

Abunda, however, believes that the talk show is a merger of two tales, as the child’s personal story is just as important as their perception of their mom. “You’re talking about two stories, pero ang narrator ang anak, it's the story of a mother, through the lens of the child. And the story of the child,“ said Abunda during the show’s intimate dinner-style media conference last May 7, 2024.

“And there is that intersection in the middle. And almost always, that is bound by love, respect – yun yung narrative arc. Dun huhugot,” explained the proud Waray host.

Often, the uniqueness of these stories emanate from the nuances specific to a mother-child relationship. One that does not necessarily dismiss the role of the father, or a partner for that matter, in family-rearing and values formation, but rather just emphasizes the deep and distinct meaning of a mother’s love.

This docu-talk TV special rests exactly on that fundamental definition. Its lifeblood will be the child’s learnings growing up, the values that were shaped during their formative years, and the manifestations of their being a product of their mothers - all packaged and delivered with the intention of highlighting the many roles played by a mom.

“It is not an interview na parang investigative interview… it's trying to get to know more the person sa pamamaraan kung paano ang kaniyang relasyon, paano siya pinalaki at paano niya pinalaki ang kanyang nanay,” Tito Boy added.

Abunda also pointed out that there are noticeable differences in the style and approach of hosting “My Mother, My Story” as compared to all the other talk show programs he has done in the past, albeit still carrying a similar brand of bringing out emotions in the most genuine manner possible.

“Nakatsinelas ako, naka-relax. I deliberately decided to not be so weird. It is very homey. Mas relaxed. Mas free ang flow ng conversation,” said the award-winning TV personality.

“(My Mother, My Story) is a lot more gentle, more relaxed. But it is very emotional,” he added. Tito Boy also revealed that it is necessary for him to talk about his personal anecdotes of his late mother, Licerna “Lesing” Abunda, in order for an honest engagement with the guest to come through.
