More than a million Catholic devotees gathered in Manaoag, Pangasinan for the centennial celebration of the canonical coronation of Our Lady of the Rosary, marking one of the largest religious events in the province this 2026.
The celebration featured a reenactment of the historic 1926 coronation in the morning, followed by a pontifical mass in the afternoon led by Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas. The event drew crowds from across the country, many of whom joined the solemn procession in honor of the revered Marian image.
In his homily, Villegas acknowledged the struggles of the faithful but emphasized enduring hope through devotion.
“Maaaring sa ngayon fiesta ng Manaoag mabigat ang pakiraman ninyo, pakiramdam ninyo iniwan na kayo ng anghel, iniwan kayo ni Hesus, iniwan kayo ng Panginoon pero hindi iniwan ng Inang Maria si Hesus,” he said.
Devotees filled the streets, carrying prayers of gratitude and faith. Jocelyn Bumanglag, one of the participants, highlighted the importance of belief during difficult times.
“Mahalaga ang pananampalataya kasi kahit anong mangyayari hindi tayo iiwan ng Ina at ni Hesus,” she said.
The event concluded with a drone and fireworks display, capping off the day-long celebration.
Despite the large turnout, local officials reported that the gathering remained orderly. According to data from the local government, more than one million devotees attended the event. However, at least 208 individuals experienced dizziness, fainting, or health issues such as hypoglycemia and high blood pressure due to the intense heat.
Mayor Jeremy Agerico Rosario assured the public that all affected individuals received immediate care.
“May recorded na 208 na na-assist medically, nahimatay at nagka-hypoglycemia or tumaas ang BP pero they are all okay kumbaga doon pa lang sa level ng stations natin, medical stations natin na-manage na sila,” he said.
The Pangasinan Police also reported that the celebration remained peaceful, with no major incidents recorded.
Local officials and church leaders expressed gratitude to volunteers, authorities, and devotees who contributed to the success of the historic event, noting the sacrifices made by participants as a testament to their deep devotion.
