Six babies in Central Visayas succumbed reportedly to pertussis or whooping cough.

Dr. Eugenia Cañal, regional epidemiologist of the Department of Health Central Visayas, confirmed of the six death cases of babies, ages zero to two months old, in Region 7 because of pertussis. 

Suspected cases logged 115 while 42 are confirmed cases.

According to the World Health Organization, pertussis is a respiratory illness that is highly contagious. Symptoms include fever, colds, and cough with a whooping sound.
