The Davao City Water District (DCWD) has assured the public that water supply remains sufficient amid the prevailing hot weather.

According to DCWD, the water level at the Tamugan River and other ground water did not go down.

The water supply is more than 600,000 cubic meters, which is enough to meet the water demand of 300,000 to 400,000 cubic meters per day.

“Substantial gyud atong surplus the conjunctive use of this we can use this as redundancy ang atoang ground water source kung aduna may drastic nga reduction sa surface water supply,” DCWD Spokesperson, Jovanna Duhaylungsod, said.

DCWD only used 20 percent of the ground water since the Davao Bulk Water Supply Project started to operate. However, other production wells will be utilized if there will be shortage of water supply.

DCWD explained that the extreme heat cannnot not affect the ground water sources directly.

“Kining gina-enjoy nato nga water karon sa ground water is a replenishment of 5-30 years ago so kining ginasinati nato nga reduced rainfall karong panahona this will be felt 5-30 years from now,” Duhaylungsod added.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the intense heat experience in the city will worsen in May due to El Niño.
