The Philippine National Police (PNP) has released updated information on the shabu seized in Alitagtag, Batangas.

According to the PNP, the total weight of the confiscated drugs is 1.4 tons, with an estimated value of P9.6 billion, which is lower than the initial estimate of P13.3 billion.

As of this writing, the PNP continues its investigation to determine the origin of the drugs, believed to have been manufactured outside the Philippines.

Meanwhile, according to DILG Secretary Atty. Benjamin Abalos Jr. in a report on 24 Oras, the driver of the van carrying the shabu has been charged with multiple cases and is currently detained at the Batangas Provincial Police Office.

“We made sure — if we’re going to look at yung kahapon kung nandun kayo, yun ang ano namin ni Chief, na yung chain of custody [ay] talagang very strictly followed — We just want to make sure na yung kasong ito ay talagang air tight na air tight,” Abalos said.

The suspected shabu was intercepted on April 15 at a checkpoint. The van driver, a resident of Masagana, Quezon City, was arrested.

Authorities noticed his nervous behavior when questioned about his license, which led to the discovery of the illegal cargo.
