A 56-year-old security guard was arrested by police at a checkpoint in Nasugbu, Batangas, after he was found with a loaded firearm tucked in his waist without permit.

The guard reportedly said he was headed to Calatagan town for personal errands.

According to police, the man also failed to present a driver's license and registration papers for his motorcycle.

A 9mm firearm with eight bullets was confiscated from him.

“Noong ipataas namin [ang kaniyang damit, may] baril, tapos tinanong namin siya kung mayroon siyang kaukulang papeles, ang kaniyang nai-present lang po ay yang kaniyang firearms license, pero wala po siyang permit to carry firearms kaya violation pa rin po,” PMAJ. Ricaredo Dalisay, Deputy Chief of Nasugbu Police Station, said.

The man is now under the custody of the Nasugbu Police Station and is facing charges.

Police said that security guards are allowed to carry their firearms within the premises of the establishment they are guarding.

“Bawal talaga po [magdala ng baril]. Ang firearms license natin at firearms as a security guard, doon lang po natin pwedeng gamitin iyan sa ating establishment na ating pinagdu-duty-han, hindi po natin pwedeng i-travel unless may permit to carry firearms or any document na transporting,” Dalisay said.

Police reiterated that gun owners should always have a license and a permit-to-carry.

Regular checkpoints conducted by the police in the province aim to ensure public safety.
