A man tagged as "Most Wanted Person" in Eastern Visayas  was presented to Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. on May 7, 2024 two days after his surrender.

The Calbayog City Police Station took into custody 36-year-old Jimmy Managaysay after he turned himself in to the authorities on May 5, 2024.

Managaysay is facing six counts of murder, two counts of frustrated murder, robbery with homicide, and direct assault with multiple attempted homicide.

He has eked out a living by farming in Barangay Villahermosa, Calbayog City in Samar Province. He was being tracked down by authorities since last year.

According to DILG, Managaysay surrendered after his family persuaded him.

Meanwhile, Secretary Abalos attended the Joint Regional Task Force 8 in Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) meet at the Northern Samar Provincial Capitol.

Abalos observed that internal peace and security now works in the province with the absence of activities related to communist-terrorist groups.

Major General Camilo Ligayo, commander of the 8th Infantry Division, assured that “all barangays in Northern Samar are now free from the influence of the New People’s Army.”

According to Northern Samar Governor Edwin Ongchuan, 50 rebel returnees are now hired as farmhands.

“Mr. Secretary may you relay the hopes and dreams of Northern Samar people. And our hopes of general peace and sustainable development,” Gov. Ongchuan said.
