A passenger bus caught fire while in the town of Compostela on its way to the northernmost section of Cebu Province.

The incident happened at past 11 a.m. on June 10, 2024 while the bus was bound for the northern town of Daanbantayan from Cebu City.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) received a report at 11:45 a.m. from a concerned citizen who was in Purok Guimbal, Barangay Canamucan when the incident occurred.

Fire responders arrived at the scene and found out that the driver, the bus fare collector (konduktor), and the 21 passengers have vacated the bus safely. 

According to the BFP investigator, the driver said he noticed of smoke billowing from the dashboard of the bus. The driver pulled over and made attempts at controlling the smoke with the use of a fire extinguisher. However, the smoke thickened, so he ordered his passengers to disembark. 

“Ni-try siya og extinguish gamit ang fire extinguisher unya nikusog man gyud kuno ang aso so iya gipagawas iya pasahero. So mao to nga nikayo possible sir, naa sa electrical part,”  FO2 Ledo Rey Comendador of the Compostela Fire Station said.
