The newly opened road along Perez Boulevard in Dagupan City was expected to ease traffic but congestion remains heavy, stretching up to Tapuac Road due to ongoing road elevation projects.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently opened two lanes along Perez-Guilig-Burgos Street.
However, another section remains under construction, which forced a bottleneck.
“Open na ang dalawang lane pero putol kasi ‘yan. Maitutuloy natin kapag natapos ang curing period ng isa pang ginagawang kalsada,” Rexon De Vera, Assistant Chief of the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO)-Dagupan City, said.
Many drivers now take alternative routes to avoid the long gridlock, especially those picking up students.
“Grabe ang traffic diyan. Kawawa kaming mga susundo ng mga estudyante,” Julius Cayabyab, a motorist, said.
TRAFFIC MEASURES IN PLACE
To manage the situation, POSO deployed additional traffic enforcers and rerouted some public utility vehicles (PUVs).
Jeepneys bound for Sta. Barbara and San Carlos City are no longer allowed to pass through Burgos Extension to reduce congestion.
PUVs must go straight from Burgos instead of passing through narrow roads.
“Dapat from Burgos, diretso na sila dito kasi makikita natin, masikip na diyan. Isang sasakyan na lang halos ang kakasya,” De Vera said.
As DPWH continues road projects across the city, POSO asks for the public’s patience. They assured smoother travel is expected once all construction is completed.
