No baby sale transpired inside the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC), according to its chief of hospital.

GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak sought a comment from the chief of hospital after it was reported that a resident of Barangay Duljo Fatima sold her eighth child, a two-week-old baby, and that the transaction was done allegedly inside the facility.

Personnel of CCMC granted an on-camera interview headed by Dr. Anton Oliver Reposar, chief of hospital, who said that the transaction cannot happen in the facility because of stringent security measures.

Reposar said that only authorized persons can enter the facility. He pointed out that even husbands cannot enter the delivery room or birthing area due to strict rules and regulations.

Reposar confirmed, though, that the woman indeed gave birth in CCMC but he assured that the transaction cannot happen while the mother is under their jurisdiction.

CCMC records showed that the mother sought admission on February 20, 2025 and that she gave birth on the same day. She was dispensed on March 6, 2025 at around 6 p.m.

It took about two weeks for the newborn to stay at the hospital for medical treatment.

CCMC vowed to cooperate with police investigation as CCTV cameras in the facility are functional, and have recorded persons going in and out of the facility.

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), the Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS) of the Cebu City Government, and CCMC will work on establishing the identities of other individuals involved in the crime, aside from the parents who were earlier taken into police custody for illegal gambling.

Police validated that the baby was rescued in another barangay in Cebu City during a follow-up operation on March 7, 2025, or a day after the mother was discharged from the hospital.

Further, CCPO with Police Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatangay, deputy city director for operations, confirmed that the baby was sold not just for P30,000 but that the price reached P87,000.

Police have prepared for the filing of charges against the parents wherein the DSWS serves as nominal complainant.

The baby’s parents refused to comment on the allegation.

The newborn has been taken into the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7, while the couple’s other children were taken in by relatives under the supervision of the DSWS.
