A 37-year-old woman was arrested in an entrapment operation for selling chainsaws illegally in Matalam, Cotabato.

Operatives of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit-SOCCSKSARGEN (RACU-12) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Cotabato Enforcement Team arrested the woman for selling chainsaws online without the necessary permits.

Authorities seized from the suspect two 20-inch chainsaws and one 36-inch chainsaw during the operation.

“During this patrol, investigators identified a violator who posted on the Facebook page of Matalam Online Market. The post included a photo of a chainsaw with the caption "36-inch mini chainsaw STHIL" and agreed to sell it worth Php 19,800,” DENR-12 said.

The woman is facing charges for alleged violation of the Chain Saw Act (RA 9175) and Cybercrime Prevention Act.

DENR said under RA 9175, possessing or disposing chainsaws without a permit from DENR is punishable by imprisonment of up to four years and may be fined ranging from P15,000 to P30,000.
