Over 180,000 Family Food Packs (FFPs) have been prepositioned by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Bicol region to aid families if Mt. Bulusan's volcanic activity worsens.

In a press release, Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD's Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) confirmed on Monday, April 28, 2025, that more than 25,000 boxes of FFPs have already been placed in Sorsogon province.

These supplies are ready for distribution to families impacted by ashfall and other volcanic hazards.

As of 11 a.m., DSWD Bicol personnel have started loading 2,000 FFPs for immediate dispatch.

This is part of the 20,000 FFPs requested by Sorsogon’s provincial government to support residents in the most impacted areas.

The remaining 18,000 FFPs will be delivered as needed.

DSWD-5 Director Norman Laurio is also reportedly on his way to the affected areas to coordinate directly with local government units (LGUs).

"Upon receiving the initial report on the incident, DSWD Bicol Regional Director Norman Laurio issued directives to all disaster teams to be on alert to monitor the situation. RD Laurio is also on his way to the affected areas to personally monitor the situation and coordinate with the concerned local government units (LGUs) for the provision of assistance to their constituents,” Dumlao said.

As of this writing, no evacuations have been recommended.

The agency continues to monitor the situation, as Mt. Bulusan remains under Alert Level 1.

The municipalities affected include Juban, Irosin, and Casiguran, with a permanent danger zone established within a four-kilometer radius of the volcano.

Dumlao appealed to the public to remain calm and follow local disaster response protocols.

“We are continuously coordinating with the LGUs and PHIVOLCS to provide the necessary support,” Dumlao said.
