The Municipality of Juban in Sorsogon has temporarily closed all resorts and tourism activities following the phreatic eruption of Mt. Bulusan on Monday, April 28, 2025.
In response to the eruption, which led to ashfall affecting local barangays such as Guruyan, Catanusan, Buraburan, Putingsapa, and Añog, Mayor Gloria Alindogan issued Executive Order No. 12, suspending operations of resorts and tourism services in the affected areas.
The closure includes popular destinations like Isla Del Sol Resort, Tangke Nature Resort, and La Kristy Resort.
"All resorts and tourism-related activities within the Municipality of Juban, particularly in Barangays Guruyan, Catanusan, Buraburan, Putingsapa, and Añog, are hereby temporarily closed effective immediately until further notice," it read.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has raised Alert Level 1, indicating low-level volcanic unrest and increased risks of hazardous eruptions.
In line with this, the Sorsogon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (SPDRRMO) advised the public to stay clear of the 4-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and the 2-kilometer Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) around Mt. Bulusan.
Local authorities have also suspended summer classes in the affected areas to ensure the safety of students and residents.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) is working closely with the tourism office to inform stakeholders, including resort operators and local businesses, about the closure.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Juban, alongside other agencies, will enforce the executive order. Any violations will be subject to penalties as set by existing laws.
The executive order will remain in effect until further notice.
Meanwhile, over 180,000 Family Food Packs (FFPs) have been prepositioned by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Bicol region to aid families if Mt. Bulusan's volcanic activity worsens.
