Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon erupted anew at around 7:43 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
PHIVOLCS said the phreatic eruption ended at around 9 p.m.
As of 8 p.m. surface observations from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) station in Juban reported winds were blowing northeast at an average speed of two meters per second.
At around 8:50 p.m., members of the Incident Management Team (IMT) of Juban have been deployed to Barangay Guruyan, while personnel from the Juban Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and Coast Guard Substation Juban delivered additional N95 face masks and conduct an initial assessment.
As of 9:43 p.m. roads going in and out of Irosin, Sorsogon were blanketed in ash following the eruption, as seen in a video footage shared by the local government unit (LGU) of Juban.
Juban authorities said parts of Barangays Buraburan and Guruyan in their municipality are also affected.
At around 10 p.m., the Bureau of Fire Protection, assisted by water trucks from the Sorsogon Provincial Government and LGU Casiguran, carried out flushing operations in heavily affected areas.
Priority was given to Barangays Bolos, Gulang-Gulang, and Tinampo in Irosin, where thick ashfall was reported.
Authorities urged residents to wear face masks and avoid travel due to hazardous conditions.
EARLIER ACTIVITY
This follows an earlier phreatic eruption on Monday, April 28, at around 4:36 a.m.
Based on the latest volcano bulletin, Bulusan remains under Alert Level 1, indicating a low-level unrest.
PHIVOLCS recorded 89 volcanic earthquakes within the past 24 hours as of 12 a.m. on April 29, including two volcanic tremors lasting 1 to 2 minutes.
Entry into the 4-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) remains strictly prohibited, while flying close to the volcano’s summit is also discouraged.
PHIVOLCS earlier warned of the possibility of sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.
