Two died while 10 others were injured when a stampede occured during a supposed payout for poll watchers at a hotel in Barangay Tumaga, Zamboanga City.
The two fatalities were senior citizens, according to the Zamboanga City Medical Center.
According to a report on 24 Oras, a large number of people gathered and wanted to enter the hotel, which led to the stampede.
As of this writing, police continue to investigate the incident, which reportedly involved poll watchers of a group of candidates.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, at least 11 people, also mostly senior citizens, lost consciousness due to alleged fatigue and hunger during another supposed payout for watchers at another hotel in Barangay Pasonanca.
Residents said they were waiting for partial payment as poll watchers from candidates they refused to identify.
Police responded to the location and dispersed the crowd.
