Personnel from Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 conducted a site inspection on an alleged scam hub in Cebu City.
The inspection was led by PRO 7 Director, Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, along with Cebu City Police Office Director Enrico Figuroa.
The inspection was done in a room used allegedly for love scam operation.
The said hub is located in Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City.
No worker was around when the site inspection took place, but the computers and gadgets were left in the room.
Police learned that the second floor of the building where the hub is located on rental arrangement was placed on sub-lease by the management of the alleged scam hub.
Figueroa talked over the phone to a woman who reportedly had the second floor of the building sub-leased. However, the woman replied she will consult first her lawyer before she would issue a statement.
Figueroa said that the alleged scam hub reached their attention via a viral social media post exposed by a video logger (vlogger).
He showed the video wherein they saw and heard conversations of workers in alleged love scam done to foreigners.
The police are to secure a cyber warrant to be able to open the computers and other gadgets found in the room.
The police have coordinated with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Business Process and Licensing Office (BPLO) that sent a show cause order to the management of the building and the person who undertook the sub-leasing and operated the alleged scam hub.
Immediately after the inspection, the site was closed and guarded by police personnel while waiting for the issuance of a cyber warrant.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has urged workers of the alleged scam hub to cooperate with the police by becoming witnesses to a case set to be filed anytime soon.
