The Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11) has assured the public that all arrests, especially those related to illegal drugs, will be conducted in accordance with the law.
PRO-11 made the assurance after PNP chief, General Nicolas Torre III, ordered the police to increase the number of arrests and announced that the number of drug-related arrests will be part of the performance metrics for police personnel.
However, the country’s top cop clarified that there is no quota system in place.
PRO-11 said that their operations will continue to adhere strictly to the police operational procedure and uphold human rights.
“Rest assured nga tanan namong law enforcement activities will be within the ambit of the law,” PRO-11 Spokesperson, Major Catherine Dela Rey, said.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) echoed this assurance.
“We are bound to follow the police operational procedure kay dili pud mi gusto ma-file-lan og kaso and sa DCPO kabalo na gyud na sila unsay proper na pag conduct sa buy bust kay usa ra ka mali masayang ang effort kay i-dismiss gyud na siya sa korte,” DCPO Spokesperson, Capt. Hazel Caballero Tuazon, said.
Both PRO-11 and DCPO acknowledged the holistic approach of the new PNP chief, which focuses not only on law enforcement but also on internal reform and community relations.
“Kung makita nimo sa iyang program karon holistic siya kay ang concern niya is about sa community naa pud sa internal PNP i-promote ang unity within the ranks,” Dela Rey said.
“Usa sab sa gusto sa atong chief PNP is to focus sa kung unsa gyud ang trabaho sa atong police to enforce the law prevent and control crimes trabahuon gyud nato nga safety ang mga tao,” Tuazon added.
