A gunfire was heard when authorities burned marijuana plants worth nearly P1 million in Sultan Dumalondong, Lanao del Sur.

According to the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office, a sudden burst of gunfire was heard from the southern portion of the operation site during the burning of the marijuana plants.

A tactical reconnaissance was conducted to neutralize the threat, but the gunman escaped.

The firearm of one of the police officers was reported missing during the tactical reconnaissance. Investigation and retrieval efforts are underway.

Meanwhile, police arrested alias “Rupug,” the alleged cultivator of the marijuana plantation and his companions.

Police found them sleeping within the marijuana plantation covering 2,000 square meters.

A total of 5,000 marijuana plants were uprooted and burned on-site.

“This accomplishment marks a significant step in the continued fight against illegal drugs in the province,” Lanao del Sur PPO said.
