The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has reported that nearly P27 million worth of assistance has been distributed to communities in Davao and Caraga regions affected by the doublet magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 earthquakes that struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental on Friday, October 10, 2025.

OCD Deputy Administrator for Administration, Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV, said the powerful tremors affected about nearly 303 barangays and close to 125,000 families or 491,000 individuals, based on data as of morning on Sunday, October 12.

The number of fatalities is still at eight – three in Davao Oriental, four in Davao de Oro, and one in Davao City – but is still subject to validation.

He said the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released 24,358 family food packs, nearly 3,606 ready-to-eat meals, and almost 2,500 non-food items to affected families.

More than 10 evacuation centers are currently operational and managed by DSWD.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) has begun transferring operations from the damaged hospital in Manay town to a safer facility that can serve as a temporary medical center.

Alejandro assured that response and relief operations continue in coordination with national and local agencies.

“Tuloy-tuloy po ang responde ng lahat ng mga ahensya at tuloy-tuloy din ang pagbibigay  tulong doon sa mga nasiraan ng bahay. Moving na po ang mga tents and tarpaulins na pwedeng ipamigay sa apketadong lugar,” Alejando said.

Despite ongoing challenges, Alejandro said the government’s resources remain sufficient to sustain assistance and rehabilitation efforts in quake-affected areas.

Alejando added that the inter-agency coordinating center of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) convened on Sunday to discuss next steps and strengthen information and education campaigns on earthquake preparedness.

He also emphasized the importance of enhanced earthquake protocols and cascading them down to the barangay level.
