A 30-year-old disconnection worker suffered a head injury after getting attacked by an irate consumer during a power disconnection in Solana, Cagayan.
In a video posted online, residents were seen helping the bleeding worker after the suspect allegedly struck him on the head with a cellphone. The victim is an employee of a third-party contractor of the Cagayan Electric Cooperative 1 (CAGELCO 1).
According to the company, the customer had failed to pay their electric bills for two months, which prompted the service disconnection on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
In a statement on social media, CAGELCO 1 reminded consumers that disconnection is part of standard procedure, not a form of punishment.
“Disconnection is not a punishment. It is a responsibility outlined and agreed upon during the Pre-Membership Orientation,” the cooperative said in a statement.
The company also condemned the violence and vowed to take legal action against the customer involved.
“Violence or disrespect toward our employees and third party partners will not be tolerated and will be subject to legal action,” the post read.
CAGELCO further appealed to the public to respect its workers who are only performing their duties.
Randy Furigay, general manager of Itawes Manpower Services Corporation, said the victim was brought to the hospital immediately and the case was reported to authorities.
“Immediately itong office naman is in-assist ‘yung disconnector natin, dinala sa ospital, then sinubmit na rin namin sa proper authorities ‘yung case na ‘yun. Masasampahan po ng kaso ‘yun, hinihintay lang po namin, idadaan po kasi sa barangay,” Furigay said.
The suspect and the victim have yet to release official statements as police continue their investigation.
