The National Bureau of Investigation-Davao (NBI-11) is set to request for cyber warrants against five persons of interest (POIs) in the killing of Barangay Tres De Mayo chairman Oscar Bucol, Jr. of Digos City, Davao del Sur.

NBI-11 spokesperson, Ely Leaño, said the cyber warrants will allow authorities to access and examine the call logs and text messages of the POIs who have not yet been named by the NBI.

"The moment na magkaroon kami ng linkage ng before and after the commission of the crime, ito sila na mga tao na ‘to, they are indeed in one setting exchanging communication yon na that might provide a big lead,” Leaño said.

Authorities are still searching for the red vehicle reportedly used by the suspects. However, they have obtained copies of CCTV footage that could provide crucial leads.

"We manage to get hold of a very serious CCTV na talagang di ko muna i-disclose,” Leaño added.

NBI believes the suspects may have connections to government officials.

"We believe na the assailants are connected with the government kung ordinaryong kriminal sinusuka na yan but because well connected sino magsusumbong very compact sila. The way how the crime committed, may corresponding signature yan,” Leaño said.

NBI clarified that the case is still a priority and that justice for Bucol will be pursued.

Bucol was shot dead on November 26, 2025 while he was live on social media while inside his home. He was known for his hard-hitting criticisms online against some government officials allegedly involved in corruption.

A reward of up to P5 million has been offered for information that can lead to the suspects’ arrest.

Bucol’s family had requested the NBI to conduct its own independent investigation into the killing.
