A steady flow of eggs is easing prices at a public market in Pangasinan, as traders report an oversupply that has ended months of tight availability, especially for smaller egg sizes favored by many buyers.
Vendors at the Mangaldan Public Market said deliveries of eggs have almost doubled compared to previous months. Small-sized eggs, once scarce, are now widely available.
“Maraming suplay ngayon, wala kaming nagiging problema ngayon,” Jazmine Pagarigan, an egg vendor, said.
Industry monitors confirmed that the increase is part of a broader national trend. The Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) said the country is experiencing an oversupply of eggs due to the growing number of egg-laying chickens and simultaneous harvesting by poultry farms. The group also noted that cooler weather has not affected production.
“Maraming stock sa itlog, oversupply tayo sa itlog. Wala tayong nakikitang shortage sa stocks ng itlog,” SINAG Chairman Engr. Rosendo So said.
With more eggs in circulation, prices have started to drop. Vendors in Mangaldan said egg prices fell by about one peso per piece. Eggs now sell for around ₱5.50 to ₱8 each, depending on size.
Consumers like Rose Arcanghel welcomed the lower prices.
“Maganda na mura ang itlog, makatipid kami,” Arcanghel said.
SINAG said the oversupply could continue in the coming days, which may help keep prices stable or even lower for consumers.
