A 61-year-old man who allegedly claimed to be a member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) and an asset of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) was arrested with an unlicensed gun and explosives in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental.

The suspect was arrested by virtue of a search warrant on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

Police said residents in the area were afraid of the suspect as he was often seen carrying a firearm.

“Sa iyang gipuy-an karon sa Taytay accordingly mo adto sa iyang uma mahibaw-an siya nga naay pusil maka cause ug kahadlok sa mga tao didto. Matud pa niya nga hinatag sa iyang mga amigo nga naay mga bala,” El Salvador City Police Chief, Lt. Col. Patrick Dalangin, said.

Seized inside the suspect’s house were a caliber .45 pistol, ammunition, and two high explosive 40mm cartridge.

The suspect reportedly failed to present document for the firearm, prompting authorities to arrest him.

The suspect refused to comment.

He is facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591) and illegal possession of explosives (RA 9516).

“Atong i-file nga kaso niya sa Republic Act 10591 sa iyang pusil ug ammunition at the same time Republic Act 9516 para sa high explosives,” Dalangin added.
