A glass window and the rear wall of Tamontaka 4 barangay hall in Cotabato City were riddled with bullets in a gun attack on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Responding police officers recovered around 34 empty shells from a caliber 5.56 rifle approximately 100 meters away from the barangay hall.
According to the Cotabato City Police Office, the suspects may have had a grudge against personnel of the barangay, which could have motivated the shooting.
“Possible BLGU issues dahil kung titingnan natin, ang tama, nakatutok talaga doon sa barangay hall,” Cotabato City Police Office Spokesperson, Lt. Rochelle Evangelista, said.
Authorities have identified a person of interest.
“May mga information na binigay ang barangay chairman sa ating kapulisan, as well as meron na ang ating investigating team na tinitingan na person-of-interest related dito sa incident,” Evangelista added.
GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to the barangay chairman for a statement, as of this writing.
