Students in Agoo, La Union were seen holding handwritten signs asking for a ride, as they struggled to get home amid fewer bus trips and faster passenger loads following fuel price hikes.
A video showed students raising papers that read “Pasakay po pls,” highlighting transport difficulties in the area. According to the uploader, it was the second time they experienced the situation.
The uploader said buses used to be more available during those hours, but trips have become fewer after fuel price increases, with buses quickly filling up.
After several hours, the students were eventually offered a ride by a passing vehicle.
However, police reminded the public that hitchhiking or accepting rides from strangers can be dangerous and may lead to risky situations.
“Mag-coordinate na lang po sila sa pinakamalapit na police station kasi mayroon namang directives ang PNP na tumulong sa pag-ferry ng mga stranded po,” PMaj. Lawrence Ganuelas, public information officer of the La Union Police Provincial Office, said.
Authorities encouraged stranded commuters to seek help from police stations instead of relying on private or unknown vehicles for safety reasons.
