Two people died after a car crashed into a truck following a hit-and-run incident involving two minors who were jogging in Maasim, Sarangani.

CCTV footage showed the truck parked by the road on the national highway in Barangay Poblacion dawn on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The driver was allegedly drinking coffee at that time.

However, the truck moved forward suddenly when it was hit from behind by a car that was reportedly running at high speed.

The driver of the car, a resident of Glan who graduated recently from senior high school, died on the spot due to severe injuries.

Authorities responded and used heavy equipment to retrieve the body.

Based on investigation, the car also allegedly hit two boys, both 14 years old, who were jogging in Barangay Kabatiol, Maasim.

The two boys were rushed to a hospital but one of them was declared dead on arrival. The other was in critical condition.

“Sa tingin ko, unang-una sa pressure na hindi man sa kanya ang sasakyan, tinatawagan siya na isauli na, so umuwi siya. Then siguro, sa pagmamadali, nasagasaan yung dalawang minor. Tapos nakasagasa siya, tumakas siguro siya, pinabilisan niya masyado ang patakbo, pagdating doon sa Purok Tinago, nabundol naman niya yung likod ng truck,” Maasim Municipal Police Station Chief, Major Edgar Vanzuela, said.
