Authorities have condemned the shooting in Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte that killed two individuals and wounded two others.
Based on initial investigation, two unidentified gunmen opened fire suddenly at two women who were jogging by the road in P-3, Barangay Muntay evening on April 21, 2026.
Police said the suspects continued firing while fleeing, hitting two other residents along their escape route toward Barangay Rebucon Bridge.
The victims were brought to a hospital, but two of them were declared dead on arrival while the other two are currently receiving medical treatment, as of this writing.
According to the Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office (LDNPPO), the incident has caused fear and grief within the community.
In response, authorities launched a hot pursuit operation, established checkpoints, and intensified intelligence operations to arrest the perpetrators.
“We assure the public that all necessary resources are being mobilized to resolve this case at the soonest possible time,” LDNPPO said.
Police also urged those who have knowledge about the incident to come forward and cooperate with authorities.
Mayor Lorenzo Mañigos said the situation in the town remains manageable if residents work together despite the incident and fears that the community is becoming increasingly dangerous.
“Dili nato pasagdan nga mahadlok ang katawhan o mawala ang paglaum. Pinaagi sa panaghiusa, disiplina, ug kooperasyon sa matag usa, mahimo nato mapadayon ang kalinaw ug kahapsay sa atong komunidad,” Mañigos said.
The town’s local chief executive urged residents to stay strong, pray for the victims and their families, and continue efforts to protect lives.
“Ang kalinaw dili lang responsibilidad sa usa, kundili sa tanan. Magtinabangay kita aron ang Kolambugan magpabilin nga malinawon, luwas, ug puno sa paglaum,” he added.
