With help from a tip of a resident, authorities pounced on an illegal drag race in Barangay Granada in Bacolod City.

The 30 individuals rounded up by the Bacolod City Police Office and Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Negros Island Region took part in the race on the Bacolod Economic Highway.

Most of those rounded up are residents of Bago City, Silay City, and Talisay City in Negros Occidental.

At least 13 motorcycles were impounded.

“May mga information na nagda-drag race sa economic highway. Naaktohan namin na nagka-conduct ang mga kabataan ng ito ng drag racing activity sa area,” said Jeck Conlu, Office-in-Charge of LTO-NIR.

Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code states about reckless driving:

No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any highway recklessly or without reasonable caution considering the width, traffic, grades, crossing, curvatures, visibility and other conditions of the highway and the conditions of the atmosphere and weather, or so as to endanger the property or the safety or rights of any person or so as to cause excessive or unreasonable damage to the highway.”

Col. Eugene Rabadomia, OIC of the Bacolod City Police Office, thanked the public for working with authorities.

“Nagpasalamat tayo sa publiko na nag-tip. Matagal na pala itong nag-exist. Nang na-monitor namin, nag-coordinate tayo sa LTO para automatic ma-impound,” he said.

The captain of Barangay Granada admitted a drag race took place.

“Matagal ko na iyang pinagsasabihan. Ang problema kung may maaksidente. Ang iba, grabe ang ingay ng kanilang motorsiklo,” said Armando Vito, the barangay captain.
