The rising prices and cost of services due to the fuel crisis has taken a toll on many workers, including farmers.
Farmers in Iloilo are lucky to get the help they need in transporting their harvest to the markets.
According to Maria Teresa Solis, Regional Technical Director of DA-6, several onion farmers sought their help, which was why they decided to take care of transporting the products to Iloilo City from Miag-ao town.
Miag-ao is located about 41 kilometers away from Iloilo City and travel can take up to one hour.
Solis said the agency is willing to help other farmers transport their goods to the city.
All the farmers need to do is send a request to DA-6 and provide details like the volume of the products they need transported.
This will be of no cost to the farmers, Solis assured.
Farmers who may have difficulty reaching out to DA may also go to the agriculture office in their municipality.
According to some farmers in Leon town, this initiative by government is a big help for them to save on cost and will help ensure they can sell their goods.
In other areas in the country, farmers are forced to let their crops rot because spending for their transport to the markets has become too burdensome financially.
