Malacañang has declared a special non-working holiday for four Cebu local government units as Cebu hosts the ASEAN Summit from May 6 to 8, 2026.
Proclamation No. 1239 signed by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto added Mandaue City and Cebu City to the list LGUs that will implement a special non-working holiday:
- Lapu-Lapu City and Municipality of Cordova in Mactan Island
- Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City in mainland Cebu
“In order to alleviate traffic and allow the host country to secure the safety of participants in the said event, it is necessary to declare 06-08 May 2026 as special (non-working) days also in the City of Cebu and in the city of Mandaue,” Proclamation No. 1239 reads.
The amended proclamation was signed on May 5 and was made public on May 6.
Members of delegations from ASEAN start to arrive in Cebu on May 6.
High level gatherings will take place on May 7 and 8.
