Heads of state of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) participating in the 48th ASEAN Summit have all arrived in Cebu.
The summit’s preeminent event, the leaders’ meeting, will take place on May 8, 2026 in Lapu-Lapu City in Mactan Island where the summit activities were concentrated.
Among the last to arrive on Thursday, May 7, was Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
In a Facebook post, Wong said he looks forward to a productive day of meetings on Friday, May 8.
“Received a warm welcome in Cebu for the 48th ASEAN Summit. There’s much to discuss, especially the regional impact of the Middle East crisis and how we should respond. Look forward to a productive day of meetings tomorrow,” the Prime Minister wrote as caption for a video collage he shared on social media.
Most of the ASEAN leaders landed in Cebu also on May 7, including Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand; President Thongloun Sisoulith of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic; Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao of Timor-Leste; Prime Minister Le Minh Hung of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam; Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet of the Kingdom of Cambodia; Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim of Malaysia; and President Prabowo Subianto of the Republic of Indonesia.
The first to arrive in Cebu evening on May 6 was Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei who was accompanied by his son, Prince Abdul Mateen.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. also arrived that night.
Myanmar is represented by its Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Stringent security measures are put in place in Lapu-Lapu City with a total gun ban implemented in the whole province of Cebu until May 11.
At least 7,000 uniformed service personnel and force multipliers, as well as 2,850 logistical assets, have been deployed for the summit.
