The local government of Polomolok, South Cotabato is set to enforce speed limits starting May 2026 to lessen traffic accidents caused by overspeeding.

Under a municipal ordinance, vehicles are required to observe a 60 kilometers per hour limit from Silway-8 to Polomolok Bridge and vice versa, as well as from Polomolok Water District to Crossing Sulit and vice versa.

Meanwhile, a 50 kilometers per hour limit applies from South Polomolok Bridge to Polomolok Water District and vicer versa and from Crossing Dagoc to Junction Cannery Site and vice versa.

Violators will be fined P1,000 for the first offense; P1,500 for the second offense; and P2,000 for the third offense, with possible imprisonment for repeated violations.

According to the Civil Security Unit of the local government, traffic enforcers will use speed guns to detect violators.

The device provides printed proof of a vehicle’s speed, along with the driver’s name and plate number.

“This equipment is top of the line, may resibo, hindi pwede bolahin yung ating riding public na ito ang speed mo kanina so meron talaga siyang print out na I hand over and meron siyang plate number kung sino yun or aling car ang violator,” Civil Security Unit Public Safety Officer, Major Marion Candava, said.

The local government said the enforcement forms part of the town’s road safety campaign to protect motorists and prevent accidents.

“Siguro nabalitaan niyo rin and every now and then may mga major accidents sa national highway and this is one of our ways to reduce yung mga accidents sa national highway,” Candava added.
