The Iloilo City government may have to resort to rationing if the supply of water in the city will continue to dwindle because of the extreme heat.
“We prepared 50 static tanks now on hand sa logistics ng GSO. This is already to prepare for the water distribution if the situation will deteriorate,” said Engr. Niel Ravena, head of the Iloilo City General Services Office.
The city is keeping a close eye on the situation, especially with the arrival of El Niño in June.
Dawn on Friday, May 15, the Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) released a service advisory that an emergency shutdown had to be implemented by their bulk water supplier following the closure of the Moroboro Dam.
“Nag-add kami ng injection point, nag-add kami ng tanker para mag-inject ng linya ng tubig and then for other areas nag-augment kami, especially for city proper, Lapuz, and La Paz area,” said Kathleen Guillermo, head of the Commercial Division of MPIW.
MPIW also said production at a water treatment plant in Santa Barbara, Iloilo slowed down.
The level of treated water has gone down due to the extreme heat and absence of rain.
The rain on Thursday, May 14, 2026, in Central Iloilo was a much needed respite.
At the residence of Gina at the Veterans Village in Iloilo City, they have to save into containers every drop their faucet produces.
“Pinapatak namin sa malaking timba tapos sinasandok lang namin at nilalagay sa drum upang hindi maubusan ng tubig,” she said.
In Cagamutan Sur in Leganes, water supply has also dropped.
“Ang hina, kaunti na lang. Noong Wednesday ata, nag-shutdown sila. Nawalan kami ng tubig,” said Reggie, a consumer.
