A latest petition for an additional P250 to the daily minimum wage in Western Visayas has died on technicality.

This after petitioners failed to submit to the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)-6 the requirements to support the petition.

RTWPB directed the petitioners to submit a copy of registration with signature of their authorized official, basis for the wage hike petition, amount of increase sought, and scope or industry covered by the petition.

RTWPB gave the petitioners five days to comply but, despite the formal notice the petitioners received on May 6, 2026, the United Labor - Western Visayas Workers’ Alliance failed to do so.

RTWPB is expected to release a resolution on the petition’s dismissal.

An official of RTWPB-6 told GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas that only legitimate labor organizations or individual worker can file a wage hike petition.

The petitioners are disappointed of the outcome.

The group contended that they have filed a wage hike petition four times and all the signatories in the petition are registered labor unions.

“Baseless itong argument ng Regional Wage Board kasi kung i-comply natin, ibig sabihin parang kinikilala natin na kahit mali ang kanilang basis, susundin pa rin natin. Magsisilbing precedent na gagawa sila ng dahilan upang i-dismiss ang mga legitimate na demand ng workers sa Region 6,” said Elmer Forro, chairperson of the alliance.

An increase in daily wage is what many workers hope can help them cope with the rising prices of goods triggered by the tensions in the Middle East.

“Para sa amin, pabor talaga. Makakatulong sa amin kahit konting umento,” said Elmer Cartama, a security guard.

Non-agriculture workers in Western Visayas have a daily minimum wage of P550.
