Two boys, both seven years old, were found dead inside an abandoned vehicle in the City of Naga in Cebu.
The vehicle was parked at Barangay Tuyan, far from where Remart Cunag and Jeff Xian Abellar lived. The two were neighbors and bestfriends and, according to their families, always went around together. Their families just did not expect they would go that far from home.
The boys’ families saw them last afternoon on May 17, 2026. When the boys did not return home, their families searched for them but did not find them.
Eventually, they reported the matter to the police. CCTV footage the cops acquired showed the boys entering the parking lot at 2 p.m. on May 17.
Days later, residents near the parking lot noticed a foul smell emanating from the vehicle.
Afternoon on May 20, the bodies of the two boys were found inside the car, already in a state of decomposition.
One of the boys was found in the driver’s seat wile the other was in the backseat.
Their remains were buried immediately.
PROBE
While authorities did not see signs of foul play, the families of the boys are not convinced and want their remains autopsied.
The families said they would want to know how the boys died exactly.
The police said it is possible that the boys played in the vehicle and the vehicle got locked, trapping them inside. It was also difficult to see inside the car because its windows are dark.
The families also want the boys' remains blessed. They said things moved fast since the boys were found and they no longer resisted when told the bodies would be buried immediately even without blessing from the church.
