Authorities have filed robbery charges against eight suspects in the April 11, 2026 robbery-holdup of a jewelry shop at a mall in Davao City.
A case of robbery with the use of a firearm has been filed before the City Prosecutor’s Office against eight suspects, one of whom was arrested on May 9, 2026.
Through coordination with the Police Regional Office-Zamboanga (PRO-9), another suspect was traced in Zamboanga del Sur and identified as alias “Dadang.”
The suspect arrested was allegedly part of a group allegedly involved in a pawnshop robbery on Illustre Street in 2025, prompting authorities to serve the warrant against him.
Police said the suspects were identified through witnesses’ accounts, CCTV footage from the site and other areas where they had reportedly stayed prior to the robbery.
“Na-identify ni nato sila with the help sa mga witnesses kay makita man nila ang mga nawng during the incident and also sa CCTV footage nga atong nakuha from the establishment sa usa ka mall and also sa mga hotels nga ilang gistayhan prior to the incident,” Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Spokesperson, Capt. Hazel Caballero, said.
Police earlier said that they are looking into the possibility that the suspects may have had help from someone working within the establishment or the mall itself.
Investigators said the suspects entered the mall easily with weapons, carry out the robbery, and escaped in a swift manner, which raised suspicions of a possible inside job.
DCPO said police officers received a report of a supposed robbery at a gasoline station in the Buhangin area at that time, which they believe may have been staged.
Authorities said the report could have been intended as a diversion to mislead the police and allow the suspects to carry out the robbery at the mall undetected.
