A 48-year-old man was shot dead by his neighbor in Kitaotao, Bukidnon.
Police said the victim allegedly went to the suspect’s house armed, along with several companions.
The victim allegedly confronted the suspect over accusations that led to the shooting.
It was learned that a court issued a search warrant against the victim, but it was not yet served as the incident happened ahead of its implementation.
“Actually nang-harrass gyud kini siya sa maong suspetsado kay allegedly iyang gipasumanginlan kining suspetsado nga kanang naghatag kini og impormasyon sa kapulisan nga aduna kini siyay mga kauban nga wanted person,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said.
The 38-year-old suspect, who was also armed at that time, then shot the victim during the confrontation.
The victim was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
After the incident, the suspect fled initially, but he turned himself in to authorities later in the evening.
The suspect turned over the victim’s firearm, but the gun he used during the incident was left at home.
The suspect is facing homicide charges.
“Kung mu-claim siya nga self-defense kini ang burden of proof is naa kaniya sa atoang suspetsado depende na kana ang atoa lang sa kapulisan nga mahimo nato ang atong trabaho,” Navarro added.
Following the incident, authorities have intensified its campaign against illegal possession of firearms to prevent similar incidents.
