Authorities in Iloilo City have launched an investigation into the killing of a man whose body was found at the floodway in Jaro District.
The man, Sheen Domer Caso, a resident of the area, was found with a gunshot wound in the chest.
Based on initial investigation, residents of the area heard gunshots at past 11 p.m. on June 10 but responding policemen did not find anything.
When authorities returned to the area the following day, they found droplets of blood.
A tanod traced the droplets and he was led to the river where he found the victim’s lifeless body, naked.
“Bumalik ang pulis at hinukay doon sa ilalim. Ang tanod, may nakitang dugo sa damuhan at ang dahon ng saging, may dugo. Sinundan ng tanod ang dugo and doon nakita ang biktima na nandoon sa ilog, lumulutang na (ang katawan),” said Miguel, one of those who pulled the body out of the water.
According to the victim’s neighbor, another resident of the area reportedly went to the victim’s house at past 11 p.m. on June 10 as if courting trouble, challenging anyone to a fight.
“Sino ang matapang diyan? Lumabas. Mula doon papunta dito. Nag-stop siya diyan. Sabi niya, matapang ka, tatakas ka? Kaya grabe ang nerbiyos ko,” the victim’s neighbor said.
Ma. Gene Celiz, the Barangay Captain of Buhang, said it is possible that the victim and the neighbor who was looking for trouble might have eventually figured in a fight.
The neighbor in question reportedly has several complaints with the barangay and has, in fact, been behind bars.
“Baka nag-away sila kasi palagi silang kinakaso. Palaging nirereklamo sa barangay… nakalabas na siya (mula sa kulungan),” Celiz said.
GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas tried to speak with the neighbor in question but did not find him at his house.
