Several buildings in Davao City were declared unsafe for occupancy following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao on Monday, June 8, 2026.
According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, at least seven private buildings in the city were issued red-tag notices, which means entry is prohibited strictly, based on assessments by the Office of the City Building Office (OCBO) and the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Davao City Chapter.
In a statement, the local government said red-tagged structures include two private offices inside a mall, one tower, one dormitory, part of a bank, and the perimeter of two residences.
These red-tagged buildings were found to have sustained severe damage and are considered unsafe.
They must undergo comprehensive structural assessment and repairs before clearances can be issued by the OCBO.
Meanwhile, 22 other structures in the city were placed under yellow-tag or restricted use.
These buildings sustained moderate damage and also require repairs before full re-occupancy, subject to OCBO approval.
The directive aims to ensure the safety of residents, tenants, and the public.
