A 34-year-old mechanic died after he was pinned under a vehicle he was repairing near a bus terminal in Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

According to a witness, he noticed the victim working on the vehicle around 6 a.m.. Later, he found out that the victim had died and was trapped under the car.

“Taod-taod na gyud ni dani kapila na namo naagian mao to kaganina gani natingala ko nag-ayo siguro kay wala raman galihok,” a witness, Alma Mae Saligumba, said.

Authorities found no indication of foul play in the incident.

It was learned that the scissor jack the victim was using gave way, causing the car to fall on him.

The victim sustained a severe head injury, which led to his death.

“Murag syag ni bag down nahugno ang jack nga iyang gigamit siguro kay wala kadaog sa sakyanan nga iyang giayo. So mubo man to siya nga sakyanan murag sports car so niubos gyud siya nga diin maoy nibangil ang iyang ulo,” Police Station 3 Deputy Commander, Lt. Jose Fajardo III, said.

The victim’s sibling said his brother had been a long-time mechanic, so they never expected that he would die in such a manner.

“Nahibaw-an nako ni alas 8 na kapin. Naa daw ni siya’y helper daw ganina alas 6 unya niuli sa ilaha kay eskwela man gibiyaan siya nga siya ra usa diha ayha pud dayun siya naipit,” victim’s brother, Solomon Tautho, said.

Authorities are likely to take custody of the vehicle while the victim’s family and the car owner are set to meet.
