A newborn baby died after allegedly being strangled and slammed against a bed by the child’s own mother in Barangay Tres de Mayo, Digos City, Davao del Sur, morning on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, the Digos City Police Station said neighbors heard the baby’s loud and distressing cries coming from the suspect's residence.
Neighbors reportedly saw the mother choking her baby, prompting them to intervene and rescue the child. However, the suspect reportedly slammed the baby against the side of the bed, causing fatal injuries.
Authorities arrested the suspect later.
Police said the woman is believed to have a mental health condition.
However, authorities are still preparing to file a parricide charges against the suspect.
