A barangay in Lapu-Lapu City in the island of Mactan in Cebu has logged at least three cases of a stray bullet hitting houses of residents in one month, something its captain has described as “alarming.”
The latest incident in Barangay Canjulao happened at the house of Lucilyn Nuñez at past 10 a.m. on June 22, 2026. She was washing clothes outside when a stray bullet pierced through the wall of her house.
She told GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak that the bullet could have hit her in the head because she was in its trajectory.
The bullet could have also hit her children who were inside the house on the other side of the wall.
It was her child who found the bullet on the floor under their dining table.
Nuñez said she heard gunshots reportedly coming from the compound of the Naval Forces Central (NAVFORCEN) when the stray bullet hit her house. NAVFORCEN has a firing range located near the compound's perimeter fence, which is about 150 meters from the Nuñez residence.
Nuñez had the incident entered into the police blotter and policemen from Police Station 3 have already checked their area.
The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office has reached out to the Naval Forces Central through a formal letter.
GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak has reached out to NAVFORCEN for comment but it has not issued a statement, as of this writing.
