A 27-year-old woman died after a bus struck the motorcycle she was ridding and ran over her on the national highway in Barangay Maticmatic, Sta. Barbara, afternoon on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

Police said the crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. on June 24.

An investigation showed that the motorcycle attempted to overtake a jeepney and moved to the opposite lane where it was hit by an approaching passenger bus.

“'Itong motorcycle nakita niyang may jeep sa harapan niya, nag-overtake siya going left sa inner lane kung saan hindi niya napansin na may paparating na bus. Base sa imbestigasyon, nasagi ng bus itong motorcycle kaya itong backride niya tumilapon,'” Police Captain Joemar Borja, deputy chief of the Sta. Barbara Police Station, said.

The impact threw the passenger off the motorcycle. She was then run over by the bus.

The motorcycle rider, who is also a woman and a friend of the victim, suffered injuries and is recovering in a hospital.

The victim's relatives are seeking justice over the incident. They are mourning her death and described her as kind and caring.

“Mahal na mahal ko 'yung pamangkin ko. Kahit anong hirap at ginhawa, nandiyaan ako lagi sa kanila. Ganun din siya sa akin. Ang sakit, sakit po talaga ang nangyari. Hindi ko po matanggap hanggang ngayon po,” Erly Montemayor, the victim’s aunt, said.

The bus driver remains under police custody and is yet to release a statement, as of press time.
