The cop who was the target of a controversial operation of the PNP-Integrity Monitoring Enforcement Group (IMEG) in Iloilo has surrendered to the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
The cop, alias Jerry, 40, also turned over to PRO-6 the 9mm pistol issued to him.
He is detained at Iloilo City Police Station 6 in Arevalo, as of this writing.
He did not issue a statement but PRO-6 said he decided to surrender because he wants to face the charges against him, once and for all.
He was dismissed from service for alleged murder charges.
CONTROVERSIAL PNP-IMEG OPS
An operation of PNP-IMEG afternoon on July 1, 2026 became controversial after the team, reportedly with information that the cop was at Police Station 4 in Iloilo City, entered the station and aimed their guns at the people there.
According to the police station chief, Capt. Ryan Christ Inot, the PNP-IMEG allegedly did not inform the police station about the operation. The group also allegedly did not show any document that would show they could search the premises.
Inot said the team disarmed them and forced them down to the floor because they were allegedly considered “armed and dangerous.”
Inot himself was made to raise his arms into the air.
“Wala silang ipinakitang picture or papel na i-search nila ang aming premises. At ang ipinagtataka namin, dinis-armahan kami at pinadapa. Ako, pina-raise lang ang aking kamay kasi para daw sa kanila, armed and dangerous kami,” Inot said.
Even the barangay captain of North Baluarte in Molo who was at the station at that time as witness to a buy-bust operation, experienced having a gun pointed at him.
“Pati kaming mga sibilyan na tumutulong sa mga pulis, ginanun pa nila,” said Barangay Captain Alan Aurelio.
The PNP-IMEG team did not find who they were looking for at the station.
INVESTIGATION
The cop’s surrender is expected to shape the investigation into the July 1 operation.
PRO-6 and the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM)-6 have opened an investigation into the incident.
“May mga allegations involving ICPS IV personnel also kaya nag-conduct ang IMEG. On the other hand, sa part naman ng IMEG, based sa mga na-monitor namin, there is an alleged irregularity on their conduct of police operation,” said Atty. Michelle Yotoko, chief of the Technical Services Commission of NAPOLCOM-6.
Earlier, PRO-6 Director, BGen. Randulf Tuaño, said the issue is how PNP-IMEG carried out its operation.
“Ang issue na pinag-uusapan natin ngayon ay dahil po doon sa kung papano in-execute yung operation ng IMEG. Sinasabi po natin ngayon na wala tayong sinisisi kung sino ang tama o mali,” he said.
Tuaño said the investigation will be fair but he also said the police station will also be answerable should it be proven that the cop the PNP-IMEG was pursuing, indeed, went to the station.
"Ang sinasabi po natin, kapag mapatunayan na totoo ang report na ito, tutulungan natin ang National Police Commission na makakalap ng mga ebidensya para mapanagot ang Station 4,” he said.
