The Province of Cebu is on heightened alert due to the effects of the Kanlaon Volcano eruption and the prevailing Habagat.

On Friday, July 10, 2026, Governor Pamela Baricuatro convened department heads of the provincial government and the police.

“We are still on heightened alert, meaning, all our preparations are in place. Ang atoang frontline offices, PDRRMO, PSWD, ug provincial health office, agriculture, veterinary… ready gyud ta, on standby. We are closely monitoring and coordinating sa atoang LGUs kung asa sila kinahanglan og support sa kapitolyo,” said Ainjeliz de la Torre-Orong, head of the provincial government’s Public Information Office.

Local governments in the central area of Cebu Island, including the independent cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu, were affected by the ash fall from the volcano that reached Cebu because of the wind trajectory.

Classes in at least 30 LGUs across the province were cancelled on July 9 because of the ashfall and the possible effects of super typhoon #IndayPH.

Classes were also cancelled on July 10 due to the continued effects of the ashfall, as well as the Habagat.

De la Torre said the 16 provincial and district hospitals in the province are ready to respond to cases that may arise from exposure to volcanic ash, including respiratory issues, skin conditions, and allergies.

As of July 10, two patients have sought help for respiratory concerns but they have been sent home after medical check.

Orong said thousands of masks have been distributed to LGUs, especially those facing Negros Oriental directly like Toledo City and Pinamungajan.

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-7 urged the public to take the following steps to protect oneself from ash fall:

  • Wear masks (N95 is highly recommended) if you need to go outside.
  • Close windows and doors to keep the ash from entering your homes.
  • Protect your eyes and stay hydrated.
  • Monitor vulnerable family members, especially those with asthma or respiratory conditions.

The EMB has confirmed that the effects of the Kanlaon Volcano eruption continued to persist in Cebu the day after. Read story: https://www.gmanetwork.com/regionaltv/news/114748/effects-of-kanlaon-eruption-persist-in-cebu-the-day-after/story/

Meanwhile, she said the province’s command center are monitoring the weather closely 24/7.

On July 10, parts of Cebu experienced rains while #IndayPH was still within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
