Persistent rains and strong winds brought by the Habagat and intensified by the effects of #IndayPH devastated parts of Iloilo and Antique over the weekend.

Several areas were flooded and a landslide killed an old man.

Strong winds and rain also destroyed a hanging bridge in the town of Leon.

Floodwaters in Barangay Tigbauan, Iloilo reached chest deep that a family had to go up their roof and stay there for at least 30 minutes.

“Masaka na ta sa babaw atop… mga 30 minutes kami sa babaw kya nakulbaan kami kay tama ka baskog ang current,” said Severino Estoque, Jr., a resident.

Two houses near the river were washed away.

“Ang balay ana ka bata ko… darwa guid ka balay sanda… gaingud sanda nga duwa mo… ay te daku daku ang tubig. dangat pa gani sa amon balay ang tubig nga amo na na kataas,” said Berning Entusiyasmo, a resident.

In Antique, floodwaters entered houses and covered streets.

In Tubungan, a 68-year-old man died when landslide hit his house in Barangay Nagba around 4 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

The landslide hit occurred around 4 a.m. and hit the victim’s house while he was sleeping.

On July 11, Saturday, at least 18 houses in Antique were damaged by strong winds and rain.

Up to 697 families had to be evacuated.

“Nagsikap na makapasok sa evacuation center as part ng preemptive evacuation natin. Umabot sa 697 families, sampung bayan ito,” said Broderick Train, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Antique.

The night before, strong winds uprooted a tree, which fell on a passenger van in the town of Culasi.

Fortunately, the driver and passengers were all safe.

ILOILO CITY

Also on July 11, floodwaters rose in at least eight barangays in Iloilo City.

In Barangay Lopez Jaena Sur in La Paz District, flood reached knee-deep.

In the coastal area in the Arevalo District, big waves pushed water into houses, damaging the belongings of residents like the Opelario family.

Marlen Opelario said the waves crashed around midnight.

“Dyan kami nakalusong, basa pati mga foam at unan. Hindi kami nakapaghanda kasi hatinggabi. Buti nsana kung araw lang, makikita mo ang alon,” she said.

Based on latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), at least 18 people have died because of the effects of Habagat strengthened by #IndayPH, as of Sunday, July 12, 2026.
