The number of people who died from the flash floods that hit Barangay Tanuman, Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental, on Friday, July 10, 2026, has risen to three.
In a Facebook post, Mayor Jason John Joyce reported that three people were reported dead, one was injured, and six others remain missing, as of 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
The local government said three cadavers have been located while search, rescue, and retrieval operations for the remaining individuals who were swept away by flash floods continue, as of this writing.
The victims included children and senior citizens.
Personnel from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the military, the police, and other rescue teams are working together to locate the missing individuals.
The local government reported that the individual injured was brought to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to conduct a Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (RDANA) following the massive flooding and landslides in several barangays in the town caused the southwest monsoon or Habagat, which was enhanced by #IndayPH.
The local government said several houses were inundated due to the prolonged and intense rains.
The assessment covered the affected barangays, including Malalan, Tanuman, Kalbay, Butuan, and Sugal.
“The RDNA serves as a vital basis for planning and implementing timely response, relief, rehabilitation, and recovery interventions, ensuring that assistance reaches those most affected,” the local government said.
