Police are studying possible charges against two minors after a video showing a 17-year-old student making threats against classmates and fellow villagers went viral on social media, prompting an immediate investigation.

The video, in which the student's face was covered and voice altered, was reportedly recorded evening on July 25, 2026. Authorities learned about it in the early hours of July 26 after it spread online.

According to the Mexico Police Station, officers verified the incident and went to the barangay hall where they found that parents of the 17-year-old minor had already brought their child.

The parents of the 16-year-old student who recorded the video also turned their child over to barangay officials.

The two minors underwent intervention with the assistance of the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWD).

Authorities are now determining what charges, if any, may be filed against them.

Lt. Col. Julius Javier, chief of the Mexico Police Station, said the investigation found that the incident appeared to be an imitation of a video seen online.

"Napag-alaman natin sa investigation na trip-trip lang ng mga bata. Ginaya lang nila 'yung nakita nilang video," he said.

The 17-year-old, identified only by the alias "Ervin," said he did not expect the video to spread widely.

"Nakita ko lang po 'yung video sa page namin, tapos ginaya ko lang po. Hindi ko naman po alam na ganoon ang mangyayari, na sisikat po," he said.

Police reminded parents to monitor closely how their children use social media to prevent similar incidents that could cause fear and public alarm.

Javier said that even if such posts are intended as jokes, they can have serious consequences.

"Ang pagpo-post ng mga ganito, although sa kanila ay biro, pero once na nag-post at nag-viral ang pagbabanta ay nagdudulot ito ng malaking panic, lalo na sa mga estudyante. Marami ang matatakot. Malaking alarma po ito," he said.
