A 55-year-old teacher was assaulted by two high school students inside a school in Maco, Davao de Oro morning on Monday, July 27, 2026.

In a viral video, two individuals can be seen arguing before the confrontation escalated into a physical fight inside the gymnasium of Elizalde National High School.

According to the Maco Municipal Police Station, the teacher told investigators that he was at the school gym when he instructed students to return to their classrooms as recess was about to end.

He then reprimanded a male student for violating the school’s policy on wearing earrings. The student allegedly became angry and attempted to punch the teacher but was stopped by other students.

Moments later, another student, who was identified as the brother of the student who got reprimanded, allegedly attacked the teacher from behind.

The two siblings then punched the teacher before other students intervened to stop the altercation.

The teacher sustained injuries.

The news team from GMA Regional TV One Mindanao went to the school but was not allowed to enter the campus. The school principal also declined to give a statement.

The incident has since been referred to the school's Guidance Office for administrative action.

Meanwhile, the two students involved were placed under the custody of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).

The Department of Education (DepEd) Davao de Oro Schools Division has also launched its own investigation into the incident.

“We are still awaiting the final and official incident report coming from the Schools Division Office of Davao de Oro. Ang magtutudlo, submitted himself for a medical intervention because of what transpired,” DepEd-11 Spokesperson, Jeneilito Atillo, said.
